Official AT&T iPhone Unlock

So my device was finally eligible for the official unlock offered by AT&T.  Now, supposedly after contacting their tech support to verify that your account is eligible ( no unpaid balance and you are out of contact ) they process your unlock and all you have to do is connect to iTunes, Backup, Restore ( this is when it should tell you your iPhone has been successfully unlocked ), then Restore from Backup to restore all your data.

Ya, that’s how it’s supposed to work.  For me, it wasn’t quite that easy.  After a few restores ( 3 to be exact ) I never got the message.  I contacted AT&T tech support again, and was “before restoring try removing your sim and then restore”.  I figured what the hell and tried it.

 

Lo and behold, there was that elusive message that the device was unlocked.  I have no need for an unlocked device other than to raise the resell value of it for when the “New iPhone” comes out :).
